Description

Bust of the sculpture Giuliano de ‘Medici Duke of Nemours by Michelangelo Buonarroti made between about 1526-1534. It is the central statue of the tomb of Giuliano which is part of the decoration of the New Sacristy in San Lorenzo in Florence, which does not exactly reproduce the features of the famous deceased, but it is rather an artistic and heroic reworking of his figure. The young man is portrayed in a snappy pose and with the staff of command in hand, revealing a very different attitude from that of the pensive Lorenzo de ‘Medici. sarcophagus there are instead the allegories of Day and Night.
