The roman marble, probably a copy of an original greek statue, was sold from Italy to France in the XVI century. Has been taken to the Louvre in 1602, then Louis XIV wanted it at Versailles, and in 1798 was definitively brought back to the Louvre.
The mold used to execute the bronze work using the lost-wax casting process was produced directly in the Vatican in 1932 by Ferdinando Marinelli Sr., and is currently in the collection of the Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli
