The Bandini Pieta, or of the Duomo \/ of the Opera del Duomo, is a marble sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarroti<\/a>, made between about 1547-1555 and kept in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence.<\/p>\n

It was made in the last years of its life by Buonarroti himself, just over seventy years old.<\/p>\n

The Pieta represents the most dramatic moment of the Gospels, when the people closest to Christ note his death and depicts the lifeless Jesus lying on the Madonna who supports him, with the help of Nicodemus, above, and Mary Magdalene on the left. According to some critics, Nicodemus would represent a self-portrait of Michelangelo Buonarroti himself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
