Description
The Dying Slave is a marble sculpture sculpted by Michelangelo in about 1513 and preserved in the Louvre Museum in Paris. Together with the marble statue of the “Rebel Slave” it derives from the architectural and sculptural project for the Tomb of Julius II, at the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome. The figure is abandoned in a weak pose, lacking in strength, while the left arm is bent up to support the head. The feeling it conveys was that of having to slide down the pillar and return to consciousness after sleep.
